Yes there are cases when one has a several hour layover where you don't mind being just a little late. We came into Cary 50 minutes late, which softened the blow of sitting there doing nothing in a relatively small place with not much to do. I don't think the time dragged there though, as we took turns taking walks around town, and subsequently some of us went to have lunch.... and there was enough time to sit down and enjoy it. Had we been two hours late, we wouldn't have walked around but still would have had the time for lunch.
The Cary station was not a bad place to be. It had adequate rest rooms, was comfortably cool, and it had Wifi. The building had been rehabbed just a couple of years ago, probably around the time that it was made a Silver Star stop and the platform was built along that track (previously the station only served the track used by the Carolinian & Piedmont). Ultimately we were there almost 3 hours, but to me it didn't feel like it.
