Thanks everyone for participating in another very successful Rail Fest. We accomplished our two Amtrak round trips between Washington, DC and Virginia points, as well as riding the DC Streetcar. We had a total of 17 people involved over the two days, although never all at once.
Despite worries about Amtrak performance in the winter, all of our Fest related trains did well, except for a delay to southbound #89 on Saturday around Aquia Harbor, which resulted in cutting 40 minutes off our about 2-hour layover. Weather predictions for snow or freezing rain on Saturday morning were proven incorrect; the temperature remained above freezing thus we had only rain. The rain was not serious and did not hamper those who wanted to walk for lunch near the Richmond station. Sunday's weather was about 10-12 degrees warmer and there was no precipitation.
Most of us also had dinner together on Saturday evening at Pizzeria Uno in Washington Union Station.
Your impressions of the weekend are always welcome.
With the Fest behind us (save for those still travelling home), I have redone the homepage in past tense, updated the itinerary to show actual times, and made a final change to the participant list. Other stuff forthcoming.
Finally, if you have not already done so, please remember to post your Amtrak mileage to the appropriate thread on this board. This includes our Fest related travels on 89, 80, 51, and 50, as well as any other Amtrak trains you used in getting to or from the Fest or used for your own leisure trips before or after the Fest.
