Aside from the seven colors available on the pull-down menu for the posting aid, there are numerous other colors that you can use in a post. You have to code them like this:

Brown
Beige
Tan
Gold (I usually substitute this for Yellow).
Silver (for a certain BUS line in Boston)
Light Green
Dark Green
Light Blue
Dark Blue
Magenta
Violet
Pink
Maroon
Dark Red

Of course relative to the color designations of rail lines, most of these won't be necessary.

Please keep in mind, too, that certain lighter colors are difficult to see on some monitors.

seagreen
cyan aqua (appear to be the same)
turquoise
aquamarine
indigo
forestgreen (just a shade lighter than) green
fuchsia magenta (again, the same)
skyblue
plum
limegreen
navy darkblue (can't decide whether these two are different)

sienna

It's the busiest travel day of the year, and it's a slow train news day for you, Nick??

Chartreuse appears to be the same as lightgreen.

Ditto for maroon and darkred.

Silver and gray are very close, but silver is a little lighter.

There is a "white", but you'll never see it unless you have a skin that has a dark background.

FWIW, chartreuse looks different from lightgreen on my monitor, with the light blue background of the skin I'm using. YMMV.

YMMV= Your Mileage May Vary?

Yes. In this case a shorthand for "the colors may look the same or different on different comuters/monitors".

So I'm reawakening this topic after EXACTLY 10 years to test out colors with the new board software.

Red
Black
Dark Blue
Blue
Navy Blue
Light Blue
Aqua
Turquoise
Teal
Light Green
Green
Dark Green
Yellow Green
Lime Green
Chartreuse
Yellow
Gold
Silver
Gray
Maroon
Dark Red
Brown
Pink
Magenta
Fuchsia
Purple
Plum
Indigo
Violet

The above were all initially achieved manually with the color tags.   On the first attempt everything worked fine.  On subsequent edits of the post not changing the colors, some of the colors lost their coding and show up as black. One can re-edit the codes in again, but the board drops some of them. It does work right if I edit in the hexadecimal codes for each color (for example #0000ff for blue), but few people are going to memorize those codes.

The text color button in the tools has a palate of frequently used colors, and if you click "more colors" you get a much larger palate with more colors than you would figure out what to do with.  Keep in mind that on our white background, most of the lighter colors won't show up very well, and neither will the color White.

Seems to me we have to go with the color palates.
