NS Alert, 9/4/18:
Tropical Storm Gordon – NS Operations in New Orleans, LA & Mobile, AL
Norfolk Southern is monitoring Tropical Storm Gordon’s path towards the central Gulf Coast and evaluating the potential impact the heavy rain may have on operations in and around New Orleans, LA and Mobile, AL.
Precautionary actions are being taken to protect infrastructure, and rail equipment is being repositioned away from the low lying areas. Shipments typically interchanged over New Orleans are being detoured to alternate gateways, when possible given the closure of flood gates by the Flood Protection Authority.
Norfolk Southern is working with customers located in the forecasted region to identify switching needs. Ongoing updates will be provided as this storm system progresses. Customers with questions regarding local service should contact their Operations and Service Support, Unit Train, Automotive, or Intermodal representative.
