From Train Riders Association of California (TRAC), newsletter for December 2005/January 2006:
The rebuilt Amtrak station in Fresno finally reopened to the public on November 19th.
Crush loads have been observed on the new Sacramento LRT extension to Folsom. An editorial in the Sacramento Bee called for headways to be increased to 15 minutes. However, it is noted that Folsom did not join Sacramento's Regional Transit District.
The MTA Expo Line in Los Angeles is closer to approval for its first operating segment. Phase 1 will run from Downtown Los Angeles to Culver City. Being discussed is an interim terminus at Culver City, as well as how to route the light rail line on the Los Angeles end. It could run via Hill Street, or join the Blue Line through the tunnel under Flower Street. The latter is better located, and the infrastructure already exists.
San Diego's Coaster commuter rail will be run by Herzog effective July 1, 2006. The currrent contract with Amtrak is not being renewed.
