Here we go again. Some years back, Aspen's bus provider, Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, had six vintage streetcars from Oporto, Portugal. The RFTA planned to use the trolleys on an abandoned rail line as a way to mitigate congestion in this ski resort town. People would park on the outskirts, and then take the trolley into town. Planners decided the project wasn't workable so they sold trolleys, one of which ended up in Issaquah, WA.
Now they new players in the town's transportation operation want to consider light rail. Too expensive for a starter line, IMO. To get things going quickly, Aspen should set up a streetcar operation with replica cars modified to handle skis.

A majority of elected officials from Aspen, Pitkin County and Snowmass Village voted Thursday to spend nearly $500,000 to study the use of buses versus light rail at the Entrance to Aspen.
