Here we go again.  Some years back, Aspen's bus provider, Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, had six vintage streetcars from Oporto, Portugal.  The RFTA planned to use the trolleys on an abandoned rail line as a way to mitigate congestion in this ski resort town.  People would park on the outskirts, and then take the trolley into town.  Planners decided the project wasn't workable so they sold trolleys, one of which ended up in Issaquah, WA.

Now they new players in the town's transportation operation want to consider light rail.  Too expensive for a starter line, IMO.  To get things going quickly, Aspen should set up a streetcar operation with replica cars modified to handle skis.  :)

A majority of elected officials from Aspen, Pitkin County and Snowmass Village voted Thursday to spend nearly $500,000 to study the use of buses versus light rail at the Entrance to Aspen.

Correction: Aspen had trolleys from Lisbon not Oporto. Apologies for the error.

Study underway on tipping point for light rail

A study to help Aspen and the upper valley ascertain cost and efficiency factors of light rail versus bus rapid transit is underway, with a consulting firm evaluating millions of anonymous cell phone data points that are being used to generate ridership forecasts through 2030.

Aspen area officials hear about possible light rail route

The first bits of information from a recently authorized, nearly $500,000 study of the Entrance to Aspen were presented to area elected officials last week, with the chief focus on the particulars of a light-rail system.

Time for valleywide light-rail system

Aspen, a beautiful mountain resort deep in the Colorado Rockies, noted for its fabulous skiing, music and the place to be and be seen. And therein lies the problem! Everyone wants to be in Aspen!
