CSX Details Hurricane Idalia Impacts

WAYCROSS, Ga. – CSX suspended operations along its I-95 route through Georgia and South Carolina due to impacts from Hurricane Idalia.

Yesterday, CSX put out a service bulletin detailing the impacts of Hurricane Idalia as it hit Florida earlier this week. The Class I has started its recovery plans as the storm traveled up Florida and the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. In response, crews have begun repairs where needed and started clearing tracks and checking signals and crossings.

As of reporting, operations are temporarily suspended “along CSX’s I-95 route through Georgia and South Carolina as [it assesses] the full extent of the storm’s impact.” Additionally, operations from Waycross, GA to Thomasville, GA/Dothan, AL are also on hold.

CSX Customer Advisory: CSX Hurricane Idalia Update

August 30, 2023

CSX is evaluating the impacts of Hurricane Idalia and has begun implementing service recovery plans. Idalia has weakened to a tropical storm as it continues moving across the Southeast, threatening parts of Georgia and the Carolinas with strong winds and flooding after impacting parts of Florida. Additional impacts on rail operations are possible as the storm continues its trek. We will issue additional customer advisories as the situation warrants.

Here are the latest updates:

CSX team members have been successfully clearing tracks, checking signals and crossings, and implementing repairs where necessary in impacted areas.

  • Operations have been temporarily suspended along CSX’s I-95 route through Georgia and South Carolina as we assess the full extent of the storm's impact.
  • Operations on the Bow Line (Waycross, GA to Thomasville, GA/Dothan, AL) are currently on hold, with expected resumption around 2000.
  • In Waycross, Florida, hump production on one of the five humps was temporarily halted for a period of time as the eye of the storm passed directly over the yard. It has since resumed.
  • The Manchester/Fitzgerald subdivision (Jacksonville/Waycross to Mid Georgia) experienced a 16-hour outage but has now resumed line of road operations.

CSX crews are committed to working effectively with customers to ensure safe service restoration as quickly as possible. If there are any changes in your local service needs due to the storm, please notify your CSX contact.
