As of 6 PM Con-Edison has provided electrical service to Grand Central Terminal.
This will enable Metro-North to provide limited train service for the rest of Friday evening.

Customers should be advised that they may have to wait up to two hours for a train.

We appreciate your patience during this region-wide power outage.

Again from the MTA's website.
Alan,

Take care and take trains!

It took a little over 24 hours for the MTA website to be brought back up; it was down when it was needed the most. Although there are periodic updates now about the LIRR and MNRR services, the New York City Transit page has nothing -- it does not even allude to the fact that there was any problem, yet that system is still 100% down.

Well since their servers are located in NYC and that building only just got power back about an hour ago, there was no way for that site to be available, much less updated.

Hopefully they will put up updates on the Subway soons.

However, I can tell you that they are just about to restore third rail power to my favorite line, the #7. I just heard them warning people to stand clear and to radio in, if there is any unsafe condition that would prevent them from restoring third rail power.

While I'm sure that I've missed hearing about a few lines powering up, I know that fully half of the lines are currently under power based upon what I have heard on the radio. That of course still has nothing to do with actually resuming service.
Alan,

Take care and take trains!
