Day 1, the Pre-Fest for our Toronto RailFest 2004 event, is over. Our slight disappointment is that we had to bypass Syracuse because of two reasons:
  • Our train was running a bit late, too late for us to make it to the 5 PM OnTrack City Express departure from the Carousel Center Mall.
  • It was pouring rain when we passed through Syracuse, so we would have been saturated on our walk between the transportation center and the mall.
So rather than getting off Amtrak Train #281 at Syracuse, and boarding the later Train #283, we were allowed by the crew to stay aboard #281 to Buffalo. They accepted our #283 tickets for the Syracuse-Buffalo segment of our trip.

We'll hit Syracuse another time -- it was suggested that this could be done in tandem with a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railway out of Utica.

We walked 3 blocks from the Exchange Street station in Buffalo to the nearest LRt stop (the southern end of the line). Piotr got off right at the door of the hostel where he is staying, while the rest of us rode one stop further to the stop nearest the Doubletree Hotel, from where I type this in its Business Center.

Anyhow, Steve, Piotr, Alan, Skip, Michael, and I (Group B ) had a nice day on the rails, and we look forward to meeting up with HaRRy sometime tomorrow morning, riding the LRT here in its entirety, and then meeting up with the "A" group (John, Jishnu, and Ed), which should be leaving New York City early tomorrow (Thursday) morning on the MAPLE LEAF. The ten of us should then cross the border and arrive in Toronto tomorrow evening.

So far, so good! :)
