Streetcar Tracks Getting Road Tested

Summerfest festival traffic is putting the newly installed streetcar track on W. St. Paul Ave. through the paces. For the first time drivers are able to drive on the recently installed tracks.

In order to accommodate festival traffic, crews have cleared off the stretch of W. St. Paul Ave. they’ve occupied since early April. Vehicles are now cruising along atop the tracks. Vehicles and pedestrians are also crossing the track on E. Wisconsin Ave. at N. Broadway where a one-week closure resulted in a finished intersection.

Milwaukee, WI Business Journal, 7/1/17:

Streetcar construction on schedule in downtown Milwaukee

Contractors building the downtown Milwaukee streetcar have moved out of the way of Summerfest’s party-goers, and instead are focusing their efforts on North Broadway and North Jackson streets.

City Chooses Streetcar Operator

The Milwaukee Streetcar has an operator. As widely expected, the Milwaukee Streetcar selected a for-profit firm to operate the the 2.1 mile long starter system. After a lengthy process, Department of Public Workscommissioner Ghassan Korban has informed members of the committee overseeing the streetcar that the city has entered into a contract with Transdev to operate the streetcar.

Special Report: Making the Milwaukee Streetcar

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee’s first streetcar is scheduled to arrive next month. The company making it let CBS 58 inside on Thursday so we could show it to you.

The factory is about 600 miles away from Brew City in the tiny town of Brookville, Pennsylvania. CBS 58 Morning News anchor Jessica

Tighe traveled there to get the first look at it and talk to the workers involved.
