Hurricane Wilma - Florida Service Restoration Update

Auto Train : Service Resumes
Silver Star & Silver Meteor : Service Suspended South of Orlando
Following the passage of Hurricane Wilma over Central and Southern Florida, Amtrak has been working with CSX Transportation to restore train service in the affected area.
The daily Auto Train (Trains 52 & 53) has resumed its service in both directions from Lorton, Va., (south of Washington, D.C.) and Sanford, Fla. (north of Orlando). The Silver Service trains are operating only between New York City and Orlando.
Rail service south of Orlando is not yet possible, pending inspection and repair of infrastructure. Florida Amtrak stations south of Orlando remain closed, with the exceptions of Tampa, St. Petersburg-Pinellas Park and Lakeland.
Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for updated information on available train service. Amtrak will update this bulletin on or before Thursday, October 27.

Wednesday, October 26
Trains 91 & 97, the southbound New York-Miami Silver Star and Silver Meteor will operate to Orlando, with no alternate transportation available to points between Orlando and Miami.
Trains 92 & 98, the northbound Miami-New York Silver Star and Silver Meteor will originate in Orlando, with no alternate transportation available to points between Miami and Orlando.
Amtrak Thruway Motorcoaches connecting with Trains 91 & 97 and with Trains 92 & 98 will operate, with additional service from Tampa and Lakeland to connect with Trains 91 and 92.
Thursday, October 27
Trains 91 & 97, the southbound New York-Miami Silver Star and Silver Meteor will operate to Orlando, with no alternate transportation available to points between Orlando and Miami.

Why the 12-day discrepancy? If conditions are good enough for one train, they are good for the other as well.Silver Star (Trains 91 & 92): Service Suspended South of Orlando through Nov. 1
Silver Meteor (Trains 97 & 98): Service Suspended South of Orlando through Nov. 13
Or perhaps will they on an interim basis on 11/2 extend the STAR to Lakeland and Tampa (which most likely had relatively little damage compared to those south of Auburndale)?

Auto Train (Trains 52 & 53): Normal Service
Silver Star (Trains 91 & 92): Service to be Restored, effective Nov. 4 (southbound) & Nov. 6 (northbound)
Silver Meteor (Trains 97 & 98): Service Remains Suspended South of Orlando through at least Nov. 6
Amtrak has been working with CSX Transportation to restore train service in the area affected by Hurricane Wilma. Service on the Silver Star will be restored between Orlando and Miami with the southbound departure of Train 9 from New York on Nov. 4. Service on the Silver Star will be restored between Miami and Orlando with the northbound departure of Train 92 from Miami on Nov. 6.
At this time, southbound Silver Star passengers will not be accepted to Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood because electric power has not been restored to those stations and train arrival times are scheduled when evening curfews are in effect. This curfew will not affect the northbound Silver Star, as it operates through this area during morning daylight hours. The Miami station is operational.
A decision will be made on Nov. 6 regarding restoration of service by the Silver Meteor between Orlando and Miami. Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for information on available train service. Amtrak will update this bulletin on or before Sunday, Nov. 6.
