Weekend service adjustments December 4-6 for rebuilding
Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of December 4-6 with service adjustments on all six lines beginning at 10:00 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday.
This weekend, trains will operate as follows:
- Yellow and Green line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals
- Red Line trains will operate every 18 minutes.
- Orange, Silver and Blue Line trains will operate every 20 minutes.
Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
Red Line
Trains every 18 minutesSingle tracking in two zones to allow for grout pad, rail tie, fastener and insulator renewal:
- Between Medical Center & Grosvenor
- Between Judiciary Square & NoMa-Gallaudet
Orange Line
Trains every 20 minutesSingle tracking Between Foggy Bottom & Clarendon to allow for fastener renewal.
Silver Line
Trains every 20 minutesSingle tracking Between Foggy Bottom & Clarendon to allow for fastener renewal.
Blue Line
Trains every 20 minutesSingle tracking Between Foggy Bottom & Arlington Cemetery to allow for fastener renewal.
Yellow Line
Regular weekend service Huntington to Mt. Vernon Sq onlyAll trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Sq rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
Green Line
Regular weekend serviceSingle tracking Between Mt. Vernon Sq & U Street to allow for fastener renewal.

- Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders. To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.
- Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. Trip Planner is updated to reflect weekend rebuilding schedules on Fridays; please check on Friday afternoon or later.
