Temporary Service Adjustments in Place Due to Tropical Storm Idalia

As Tropical Storm Idalia moves toward the Gulf Coast of Florida, Amtrak is temporarily adjusting service on select routes as a safety precaution for customers and employees.

 

Monday, Aug. 28
• Silver Star 91: (New York to Miami) will operate from New York to Jacksonville, Fla. No alternate transportation will be available from Jacksonville, Fla., to Miami.
• Silver Meteor 97 (New York to Miami) will operate to Jacksonville, Fla. No alternate transportation will be available from Jacksonville, Fla., to Miami.

 

Tuesday, Aug. 29
• Auto Train 52 (Sanford, Fla., to Lorton, Va.) is canceled.
• Auto Train 53 (Lorton, Va., to Sanford, Fla.) is canceled.
• Silver Star 91: (New York to Miami) is canceled.
• Silver Star 92: (Miami to New York) is canceled.
• Silver Meteor 97 (New York to Miami) is canceled.
• Silver Meteor 98 (Miami to New York) is canceled.
• Palmetto 89 (New York to Savannah) will operate from New York to Washington, D.C.
• Palmetto 90 (Savannah to New York) will operate from Washington, D.C., to New York.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 30
• Auto Train 52 (Sanford, Fla., to Lorton, Va.) is canceled.
• Auto Train 53 (Lorton, Va., to Sanford, Fla.) is canceled.

Approaching tropical storm leads to Amtrak, SunRail cancellations

 

August 28, 2023

 

Storm expected to strengthen to hurricane status tonight

 

ORLANDO, Fla. — Amtrak has cancelled or abbreviated routes for a number of trains in the Southeast as a result of Tropical Storm Idalia, now approaching Florida’s Gulf Coast.

 

Orlando-area commuter operator SunRail will also suspend operations as of Tuesday, Aug. 29, until further notice. Tri-Rail and Brightline operations in South Florida are not affected.

So the equipment that operated from New York on 8/28 and terminated in JAX on 8/29, will then originate from JAX on 8/31.  Wonder where they will keep the equipment safe for 2 days?   Can't sit on the mainline and it can't go anywhere as presumably CSX will remove the crossing gates.

Resumes Regularly Scheduled Service to Florida

Amtrak will resume service to Florida. Service adjustments were in place due to severe weather.


The Auto Train (52 & 53), Silver Star (91 & 92), Silver Meteor (97 & 98) and Palmetto (89 & 90) will operate scheduled service on Friday, Sept. 1
