Crews clearing derailment site after BNSF train hits boulder

 

WILLIAMS, AZ - Crews are clearing a northern Arizona derailment site where a freight train's three locomotives and one car went off the tracks when the lead locomotive struck a boulder.

 

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokeswoman Lena Kent said there were no injuries and no hazardious materials spilled when the derailment occurred Sunday evening west of Williams.

 

Kent said the derailment remained under investigation and some details aren't immediately available. Those include the size of the boulder and how got on the tracks.

On Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time, we received a preliminary report that
S-LBLLPC1-28A derailed at Perrin, Arizona. This location is approximately 97 miles west of Winslow, Arizona.

BNSF personnel are currently en route to the derailment site to determine the impact. BNSF will continue to provide you with addition information as it becomes available. Customers may experience delays of 12 to 24 hours on shipments moving through this corridor.

The first track is estimated to open at 1:00 pm Central Time on Monday, March 2nd. The second track is estimated to open at 8:00 pm Central Time on Monday, March 2nd. On Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time, we received a preliminary report that S-LBLLPC1-28A derailed at Perrin, Arizona. This location is approximately 97 miles west of Winslow, Arizona.

 

The first track reopened at 7:08pm CST on Monday, March 2nd. The second track reopened at 1:30am CST on Tuesday, March 3rd. Customers may experience delays of 24 to 36 hours on shipments moving through this corridor.
