You all have a nice and safe train ride(s).  I will look forward to seeing you in the Big Green.

Several participants in our annual Summer RailFest, the Pacific Coast RailFest 2016, are already in travel, as I am to eventually meet up with everyone someplace.  I hope we all have a good time together once more as we execute the plans we have had so long.  Remember we had to reserve these Amtrak tickets early by the 24th of January to get points redemptions under the old Amtrak Guest Rewards set of rules?   So it's been a long time in coming, and now it's time to make it happen.

Enjoy your various trips to Chicago, and then we will travel in a larger group from there across the country. People will come and go as we hit each of the 3 west coast cities, but that is what makes things interesting.   Any way you can help me throughout the Fest would be appreciated.  Perhaps remind me of some incidents I might have missed, or nudge me when there is a good opportunity for us to get a group photo together.  These usually arise at the far end of a transit line while we wait for the vehicle to turn and head back.  Let's not wander too far when we get to those places so that we can get everyone together in a photo and not have to round people up who are walking in the opposite direction.

New to me will be all the new trackage we will ride on transit and streetcars in Seattle, Portland, & Los Angeles, as well as Amtrak's Coast Starlight south of Portland ---- and its Parlor Car as well.

Remember too that on any Fest we need to set aside time to discuss the future --- what we will be doing in subsequent years for these events. I have had a lot of suggestions this year for major changes to the format of how and when we can meet, so bring your ideas with you.   I may speak with some of you in private, but a group discussion face to face would a better way to weigh the pros and cons of the suggested changes.

We have nice manageable numbers going into the event, however never will all 14 total people currently on the guest list be together at one time. We may peak at 10, 11, or 12.

I will come around and visit aboard the trains provided we have something to talk about.  Conversely, if I am holed up in my roomette "working", this is a great opportunity to work on and finish the report for last year's trip, so I may be doing that as well.  It's easy to say the report will be done soon after the trip is taken, but the realities of life including returning to the job and dealing with home and car problems will resume when I get home. But given our new way of  presenting trip reports on the Forums, it will be a much easier process to accomplish.

I appreciate all of you who are using your vacation time to spend it with me and other friends, so let's get out there on the rails and enjoy ourselves!   Feel free to share your impressions of the day as you rest up for the next, as I have created separate threads on this board for each day or city or activity so others can know our status and how things have gone thus far.
