Coronavirus Update




COVID-19 UPDATES – last updated 3/20/2020

Sun Tran and Sun Van are currently operating normal bus schedules.

Sun Link has reduced hours to the summer schedule – view streetcar schedule at sunlinkstreetcar.com

FARES

Beginning Saturday, March 21, 2020, the City of Tucson will waive the fares on Sun Tran, Sun Link and Sun Van. These changes are in effect through the end of March, at which point it will be reevaluated.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

On the vehicles, Sun Tran and Sun Link passengers are asked to observe safe social distancing of at least six feet away from each other when possible.

Sun Tran passengers are asked to only use the rear door to enter and exit the bus.

• Non-ambulatory passengers who need a lift can board at the front of the bus.

    Council weighs abolishing fares on buses, streetcars  

 

 

 

Tucson's SunTran buses and SunLink streetcars will continue to offer free rides through the end of the year. But the city council is talking about abolishing fares permanently.

Sun Tran says they will still require passengers and drivers to wear masks while using public transportation and entering administrative offices.

   Will the Sun Link streetcar stay free through the new year?    

 

 

The Sun Link Streetcar that runs along Second Street, University Boulevard and Fourth Avenue is one of the main modes of transportation available for University of Arizona students. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic Sun Tran has made all of its services free, providing thousands of students transportation in the area; however, that may all change come the new year.

    Sun Link streetcar experiencing record ridership after fare lifted because of COVID-19 pandemic  

 

 

Tucson’s Sun Link streetcar is breaking ridership records after the city council’s decision not to implement a fare because of the COVID-19 pandemic more than a year and a half ago. Leaders at Sun Link now worry ridership will drop once a fare is required again and are discussing ways to ensure volume remains.

    Masks no longer required on Tucson's buses & streetcar      

 
 
Masks will no longer be required on SunTran buses or Tucson's SunLink streetcar after a federal judge in Florida ruled the CDC should not have implemented a nationwide mandate for face-coverings as bulwark against the spread of COVID-19.

   Tucson Sun Link streetcar will remain free through end of 2022  

 

University of Arizona students can ride the Sun Link Tucson Modern Streetcar for free until the end of this year.

 

In June, the Tucson City Council extended the suspension of fares for all Sun Tran services, including the Sun Link streetcar. The streetcar runs through the UA and is frequently used by students to get across campus and to downtown Tucson

   Sun Tran fares will be free through December 31st, 2023  

 

 

Sun Tran, Sun Link, and Sun Van routes will remain free through the end of the year, according to the city. Those fares were first waived in March of 2020, because of the pandemic and financial hardships it worsened.
