Seeing that no one else has gotten around to it, let me say that those of you who formed this new meeting place for this virtual community after the old one became unusable should pat yourself on the back. I know that many hours have put in, and that someone must have put some money into the deal. I am impressed that we have 71 members, and hope that the many silent types will soon let their views be heard, even if they are "off the wall". I myself am a buddist-socialist, thus a REALLY outragous AMerican but I feel welcome here, so I know everyone else would also. Thanks guys.

I want to second Steve’s comments as well. I used to “lurk” over at the old Prodigy site unable to put my two cents in since I wasn’t a subscriber. It was frustrating. What HaRRY, Kevin and David have done is take a bad situation, the downgrading of the Prodigy Communities and demise of the specialized rail area, and not only fully recover but actually move on and develop an improved product. To use some corporate babble (which I typically hate), they turned a challenge into an opportunity. OTOL is a civilized location for some honest discussion with all points of view welcome (even those of a somewhat conservative aviation fan). Thanks, guys! Bill

Thanks! :D It's means a lot to me as Board Leader, and to the other Admins & Moderators as well, to hear positive feedback. Everyone who joins is certainly welcome, as are our "guests" (the kinder name on this IPB software for "lurkers").

I would like to see more people who registered with us contribute. We know that our membership transcends many parts of the United States and so there may be trains-related news stories out there that others have not seen. While I don't expect everyone to post 880 messages to the board in a 2-1/2 month period as I have, it would be nice to see more news items posted, as I am sure there are many that were missed by the various sources from where I derive the information.

I think what sets us aside from others is the intricate specialization of the many aspects of Trains, both as a hobby and as a means of transportation. To that end, we are discussing the splitting of the Societies/Museums/Tourist Trains/Private Cars forum into at least two smaller forums.

I hope also as our numbers increase that we will have more participation in the last category, Railroading Hobby. That has lacked in activity during our first 79 days. We know that most of you are into prototype trains, but a number of you are also into modeling, software, and photography. Again if you see any news items about these topics, or wish to start a discussion or ask a question about them, please post away in those forums!

What HaRRY, Kevin and David have done is take a bad situation, the downgrading of the Prodigy Communities and demise of the specialized rail area, and not only fully recover but actually move on and develop an improved product.

Alan Burden joined the ranks of Administrators just before we went live with this BB, and he deserves a lot of the credit for the success of our new board as well, with his highly technical input.

Thanks to the 71 members who joined us in the first 79 days. I am sure we will continue our success here if we continue to average just under one new registration per day.

As always, if you have any suggestions on how we can provide you with an even better product, please let us know by posting in this Announcements/Comments forum.
