“A Year of Travels” will be the topic of an illustrated talk by Steve Barry, Editor of Railfan and Railroad magazine to Harrisburg Chapter National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) on September 8 at Hoss’s Restaurant, 743 Wertzville Rd., Enola, PA.  Business meeting and speaker begin at 7 pm, with a meal available as early as 5 pm. The dinner and meeting are open to the public.

During his career, Barry has traveled throughout the United States and Canada to cover railroad news as well as photograph railroad scenes in a variety of venues.  He occasionally leads workshops in night photography. His talk will focus on some of his favorite photos taken during the past 12 months, with topics ranging from mainline steam to streetcars from across the U.S.

Barry joined the staff of Railfan and Railroad, formerly a Carstens publication, in 1996 and became its editor two years later. He remains at the editorial helm after the magazine’s 2014 acquisition by White River Productions.

He is a Global Director of NRHS and a member of the Wilmington, DE chapter.

Harrisburg Chapter, one of over 149 chapters of the National Railway Historical Society, is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to studying railroad history and preserving significant local railroad artifacts. Major projects include: maintaining Pennsylvania’s official electric locomotive (GG-1 # 4859) as well as Pennsylvania Railroad wood-sided N6B caboose, preserving and operating Harris Tower, and showcasing operating model train layouts to community groups.
