The Lackawanna &Wyoming Valley Chapter NRHS
is sponsoring a ride along the historic former Erie Railroad
Honesdale Branch from Honesdale to Lackawaxen, PA on The
Erie Limited on June 10. Power for the 50-mile round trip
through beautiful scenery through the Lackawaxen River Gorge will be the Stourbridge Line’s EMD BL-2 #54. Photo
run-bys are planned. All proceeds from this excursion will
benefit the restoration of Boston & Maine steam engine 3713.
The train will include coach ($35), caboose ($99), lounge
($89) and president’s car ($250). The president’s car is ex-
B&O #97 and was used in the service of Presidents Calvin
Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. The
Chapter also is auctioning off two tickets to ride in the cab of
the locomotive! The schedule is leave Honesdale at 10 am and
return at 4 pm. There will be one hour for lunch at the
Lackawaxen pavilion. Bring your own lunch or try a delicious
$10 box lunch, ordered ahead of time with your tickets. There
are no locations to purchase food at Lackawaxen. Get all the

Stourbridge Line seems to be having a resurgence after several
years of inactivity.
The Reading & Northern will start its RDC trips from
its new station near Reading to Jim Thorpe on 5/29 and
continue on selected Saturdays and Sundays over the summer.
For each trip, a pair of snack bar and restroom-equipped
RDC’s will depart at 9 am, stop at Port Clinton at 9:30 am and
arrive at Jim Thorpe at 11:10 am. The return departs at 2:40
pm, stops at Port Clinton and arrives Reading at 6 pm. The
fare is $29 from Reading; $27 from Port Clinton. Tickets
must be purchased ahead of time at 610-562-2102 or by mail
or visit at the RBM&N Railroad, Schuylkill Haven Station, 12
West Main Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972-1909.
Railways to Yesterday in Rockhill Furnace is starting
a fundraising campaign to pay for a much-needed addition to
one of its storage barns. This is needed to get more of its
growing collection of transit cars under roof. A 56-foot addition
to its Carbarn Two will add 224 feet of track storage space.
The cost will be $40,000, the quote good for only 60 days.
