VRE Train Talk, 3/2:

More Winter Weather Expected for VRE Service Area

True to saying, March is coming in like a lion to add a few more inches (8-12) to our already high snow total this season. We are monitoring the forecast for the next 24 hours along with our partners at CSX, Norfolk Southern and Amtrak.

Although we always plan to run full service, a final decision will be made by 4am tomorrow morning. We will communicate any decision through Train Talk emails, Facebook, Twitter, and our website ASAP.

Although it has already been an active season so far, we want to take this time to remind our riders to be safe on their commute and be prepared. Our crews will also be watching the weather and treating the platforms and parking lots as needed.

Some tips to keep in mind:

1) Allow yourself extra time to reach your station.

2) Drive slowly and cautiously on the roads and in parking lots.

3) Wear sensible shoes and exercise caution walking to and from the station.

4) Use the handrails for all stairs both on the train and on the platform.

As always, thank you for riding VRE.

VRE Train Talk, 3/2 7:10 pm:

VRE Service Cancelled for Monday, March 3

Due to the heavy snow fall forecast for the area, VRE will not operate any train service tomorrow Monday, March 3 and our offices will be closed.

We will continue to monitor the storm and travel conditions in order to make a decision about service for Tuesday, March 4, hopefully by Monday afternoon. Please stay tuned to Train Talk, Twitter, Facebook, and our website about any service changes.

Stay safe and warm. As always, thanks for riding VRE.

VRE made this announcement shortly after the Federal Government announced a closure for tomorrow.

VRE Train Talk, 3/4 9:42 pm:

VRE Operating Full Service March 4

We will operate full and normal service on Tuesday, March 4.

Once you get on the train, we will make sure to get you safely to your destination. However, with icy roads out there and abnormally cold conditions tonight that continue until tomorrow, we ask that you plan some extra time in getting to your station. We have our crews out clearing platforms and we will work with the various jurisdictions and parking lot owners to get spaces cleared. Please know that there may still be some icy spots and want you to exercise caution and dress appropriately for the outdoor weather.

As always, thanks for riding VRE.
