Weather Alert – Tropical Storm Nate/ Embargo on New Orleans junction

October 05, 2017

Due to Tropical Storm Nate, which is currently projected to make landfall near New Orleans as early as Sunday, October 8, KCS is placing an embargo on traffic interchanging in New Orleans, LA, effective immediately.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Nate formed today in the Caribbean near the coast of Nicaragua, resulting in a tropical storm warning being issued for the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The storm is not expected to have an impact on our KCSM network.

However, the storm is on course to travel through the Gulf, making landfall in Eastern Louisiana as early as Sunday morning, October 8, 2017. In anticipation of the storm, arrangements are being made in and around New Orleans that will impact rail traffic starting today through the weekend. Hence, KCS has posted an embargo, effectively immediately, for all traffic interchanging to or from KCS at New Orleans.

We will continue to monitor this storm closely and will notify you of any changes as well as when we are able to lift this embargo. As always, the safety of our employees, customers’ shipments and the communities we serve remains the priority.

Should you have any questions on this storm or your shipments, please don’t hesitate to contact our KCS Customer Solutions team who will gladly assist you.

Thank you for your understanding.

Network Update / Embargo Lifted for New Orleans

October 09, 2017

On Thursday October 5, 2017, we reported that due to Tropical Storm Nate’s threat to New Orleans, an embargo was placed for all traffic traveling through that interchange. We are pleased that the storm diverted and we have lifted the embargo for the NOLA interchange.

Delays can be expected while we resume traffic through that interchange.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.
