Took a day off from work today, and spent the entire day in Philadelphia doing dry runs of the Philadelphia Area RailFest 2004. This was done to clarify some points on the route guides to ensure their accuracy.

In a nutshell, today I rode the following:
[*] AMTRAK 181 Trenton to Philadelphia. Pretty light early morning crowd. Train on time.
[*] SEPTA R8 30th Street Station to Chestnut Hill West. Light crowd, train ran up to 10 minutes late.
[*] SEPTA R7 Chestnut Hill East to Wayne Junction. This train had a heavy crowd, considering it was just after the morning rush. Probably lots heading for shopping at the Gallery. Got off at Wayne Junction to diagram the track layout, feeling safe realizing I was not in MBTA or NJT territory.
[*] SEPTA R5 Wayne Junction to Overbrook. Rare trip through the entire tunnel, remaining in the same seat. Busy inbound and outbound on the same train.
[*] SEPTA 10 trolley, inbound from Malvern Loop to City Hall. About 2 blocks into the trip, the operator would not let a guy onto the trolley because he habitually tried to use an invalid pass. The man stood in front of the trolley, not letting us go. Missed about 5 traffic lights before some driver passing by lured the guy away from the trolley.
[*] SEPTA R6 Suburban Station to Cynwyd to Suburban Station. Extremely light load, the feeling is, why even bother when the passengers would have fit in one taxi cab?
[*] SEPTA Market-Frankford Line 15th & Market to Frankford to 11th & Market. Busy both ways, saw many stations under construction and the new Frankford TC for the first time.
[*] SEPTA R1 Center City to Airport to Center City. Moderate crowd out to airport, very large crowd coming back into the city.
[*] AMTRAK 656 Philadelphia to Trenton. Moderate crowd. Intentionally missed 148 since line was wrapped around the entire station and this was a Friday. Good decision! No doubt SRO crowd on 148. Train 656 ran on time.

Also, I met member NickG today, who joined me for the midday R6 Cynwyd round trip.
