WMATA news release, 4/16:

Full-scale emergency response drill at Greenbelt Station Sunday morning
Exercise will test emergency response, evacuation of disabled train outside station

Metro Transit Police and the Prince Georges County Fire/EMS Department will conduct a full-scale emergency response drill at Greenbelt Station on Sunday, April 19, from 8 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m.

During the exercise, emergency responders will simulate the evacuation of passengers from a Green Line train that is disabled on the tracks outside of Greenbelt. Prince George’s County Police, Greenbelt Police and the American Red Cross also will participate in the exercise.

Greenbelt Station will remain open to customers during the exercise; however, riders will notice a large presence of emergency responders and equipment. Customers traveling to or from Greenbelt Station on Sunday morning should follow directional signage.

The drill will test the response and incident coordination of fire and emergency medical services personnel, working cooperatively with Metro operations, transit police and support personnel.

The exercise is the first in a series of quarterly full-scale drills scheduled to improve responder training in the wake of the January L’Enfant Plaza smoke incident. Subsequent exercises this year will take place in the District of Columbia and Virginia.

WTOP radio, 4/19:

Metro holds emergency drill at Greenbelt station

GREENBELT, Md. — This weekend, Metro held its first full-scale training exercise since the deadly smoke incident at L’Enfant Plaza in January.

On Saturday, emergency drills held at the Greenbelt Metro were the first in a series of training exercises being held this year.

The goal is to test and improve the preparedness of first-responding personnel. The exercise was conducted by Metro Transit Police and the Prince George’s Fire/EMS departments.

Continue here.

Was the drill on Sunday as announced by WMATA; or Saturday as written in the story?  I've queried WTOP.

WUSA-TV (CBS) Washington, DC, 4/19:

Metro tests emergency response drills

GREENBELT, Md. (WUSA9) -- Metro tested their communication and evacuation skills during a full-scale emergency response drill Sunday.

The exercise is the first of quarterly drills that will be done throughout the year in the wake of the deadly smoke incident at L'Enfant Plaza in January that took the life of Carol Glover.

The Scenario: a train is disabled on the tracks. Emergency crews needed to get the folks off the train safely and back onto the platform at the Greenbelt station.

The first critical step was to power down the third rail. That's where crews ran into some problems. One agency said the rail had power, another hadn't confirmed it.
