Construction Dive, 12/17/18:

Major contracts awarded for $1.1B Dallas light-rail

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit board this week approved $872 million for the $1.1 billion, 26-mile east-west Cotton Belt light-rail line and awarded two major contracts for the project contingent on a $908 million U.S. DOT loan. According to The Dallas Morning News, DART received assurances that the federal money would be available before the end of the month.

Story here.    Note that this is being called light rail, and it may very well be a hybrid between light rail and commuter rail.  Also while under DART, it will not go near the city of Dallas.  It's sort of a crosstown route that will connect the areas of Richardson and Plano with DFW International Airport, and the soon-to-open TEXRail.   It will also have connections with the Orange Line at and near the airport, the Green Line in Carrollton, and the Red/Orange Lines near its eastern end.

Here is Herzog's fb announcement of the contract for the Cotton Belt commuter line.

It shows the planned vehicles to be Stadler FLIRTs like TexRail has except painted in DART's yellow and white.

While TexRail is mostly single track with passing tracks, the Cotton Belt line will be mostly double track.

Fort Worth, TX Star-Telegram, 6/3/19:

Soon you’ll be able to ride TEXRail from Fort Worth all the way to Plano. Here’s how.

TEXRail is already a popular commuter train service that opened in February, connecting riders from downtown Fort Worth to DFW Airport.

Now, imagine if you could take that train all the way from Fort Worth to Plano.
