N.J. cop who rescued man from train tracks receives national heroism award

 

 

A New Jersey Transit police officer who rescued a man from the tracks at the Secaucus Junction station moments before a train arrived last year has received a national heroism award.

 

Victor R. Ortiz, 41, of Union, is one of 19 recipients of the Carnegie Medal, awarded by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission on Monday to people who risk their lives while attempting to save the lives of others.
