Blue Line Extension cities step up advocacy for light rail line

 

Cities along the proposed Bottineau Blue Line light-rail route have stepped up their advocacy efforts in hopes of moving the project forward as opening dates for the Southwest Light Rail Transit line continue to be pushed back.

Blue Line Extension a priority for northwest legislators in upcoming session Light rail line

 

 

 

Legislators serving the northwest communities recently met at Crystal City Hall to discuss their priorities in the upcoming legislative session beginning Tuesday, Feb. 20.

 

A representative from Gov. Dayton’s office, the Metropolitan Council, senators, house representatives and mayors, council members and staff members from the northwest suburbs of Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope and Robbinsdale gathered to discuss draft legislation for New Hope’s 50-meter pool, flooding on Medicine Lake Road and at the DeCola Ponds in Golden Valley and the next steps to connect the Blue Line Extension of light rail transit.

Bottineau light-rail talks stall between Met Council, BNSF

 

Negotiations over whether the proposed $1.5 billion Bottineau Blue Line light-rail project will share most of its route with freight trains appear to have stalled.

 

The 13-mile Blue Line extension would link downtown Minneapolis with Brooklyn Park, operating along eight miles of right of way owned by BNSF Railway Co.

What lawsuits from neighbors, attacks from Republican legislators and draconian budget proposals by President Trump couldn’t accomplish, the BNSF railroad just might. That is: kill a Twin Cities light rail line.

Bottineau LRT construction delayed until 2020

 

 

Heavy construction of the Bottineau Light Rail Transit project won’t begin until at least 2020 because of a delay in executing a critical corridor-sharing agreement with the BNSF Railway, the Metropolitan Council said Friday.

A project called “Cultivate Bottineau” will create unique identifiable pieces of art at future light rail stops. The McKnight Foundation is supporting the effort and putting a call out for artists.

   LIGHT RAIL SUPPORTERS LOOK TO JUMP-START STALLED BLUE LINE PROJECT  

 

In 2017, the Metropolitan Council released an updated, virtual flyover video, showing the route of the proposed Metro Blue Line extension.

 

Today, cities along that route are still waiting for the video to become a reality.
