I hope in their "postmortem" analysis they recognize that this tower became a single-point failure that is impacting the entire transit system. Would a future failure on a clear, sunny day shut down the entire transit system? I hope they establish a backup so any future failure does not.

Ross

I think he is mistaking the operations control center in Boston with the tower that does the switching for the two Red Line branches. Either that or he is referring to a radio repeater for the communications with the OCC which could affect service in that area not just for the Red Line but but one of the major bus garages as well.

MBCR update for Monday 2/11:

All Commuter Rail Customers
Blizzard Advisory Update - Sunday, February 10, 2013

Regularly scheduled MBTA service will resume at the start of service on Monday, February 11, 2013.

Customers should expect delays and plan extra time for their Monday morning commute as all MBTA service recovers from the impact of the storm. Due to significant snow accumulations, customers are encouraged to use caution at station platforms, and on walkways.

Please be advised that the MBTA parking contractors have not been able to ensure the total clearance of snow from all commuter rail parking lots due to the sheer volume. This means that parking spaces will be limited.

The safety of customers and employees continues to be the MBTA's and MBCRs top priority.

MBCR employees have been working around the clock since the beginning of the storm in order to restore commuter rail service for our customers. We ask for the public's patience and understanding as we recover from the effects of this storm.

Customers are also encouraged to check http://MBTA.com/ http://www.mbta.com/weather
follow MBCR on Twitter @<http://twitter.com/mbtaGM>MBCR_info, and check local news broadcasts and T-Alerts

Thank you for riding the commuter rail.

MBTA plan for Tuesday 1/12/13 fills in the loose gaps from Monday where there were concerns on the Matappan Trolley and the Greenbush commuter raill line. Everything appears to be back now, albeit with a general warning that there could be delays. And while the Silver Line does run underground between Union Station and Silver Line Way, IT IS NOT A REAL SUBWAY! Much of the Silver Line, in fact all of the portion south along Washington, runs on the surface.
