MTA chairman Janno Lieber roasted New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Wednesday over his transit budgeting chaos, taking a dig at one of the most vocal critics of the planned congestion toll in Manhattan.

“Phil Murphy said he was gonna fix New Jersey Transit if it kills him,” Lieber told New York state lawmakers during a budget hearing in Albany. “I’m not sure. He’s not dying, and I’m not even sure if he’s trying.

In addition to the fare hike taking effect 7/1/24, there will also be a new refund policy.  30 days from purchase going forth.  NJ TRANSIT website:

Important Update to NJ TRANSIT Ticket Policy – Effective July 1, 2024

Beginning Monday, July 1, 2024, all printed and digital NJ TRANSIT one-way tickets will now have a 30-day expiration period. Here are the details of the updated policy:
  • Any one-way tickets purchased on or after July 1, 2024, will be valid for 30 days, including the date of purchase.
  • Any tickets purchased prior to July 1, 2024, will expire on July 31, 2024, regardless of their original date of purchase.
  • There will be no changes to the existing Refund Policy.

I had some digital tickets for the Atlantic City Line PHL-ACY that I had purchased last September 2023 with intention to travel that month , and then weather and winter forced me to postpone it until I finally used them the last week of April 2024.   So they worked  7 months after i bought them.   This is, therefore, a drastic change.   Had this policy been in effect, i would have had to eat those digital tickets for dinner in October.
