Santa Clara VTA to Expand Capacities on Buses, Light-Rail Trains
With Santa Clara County now in the least restrictive yellow tier in the state's reopening blueprint, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority said it will expand rider capacity and shift to a 3-foot distancing protocol on its buses and light-rail trains starting this week.

VTA increases capacity on transit vehicles starting May 26
Now that Santa Clara County has entered the less restrictive Yellow Tier, VTA is updating on-board passenger capacity with 3-foot social distancing between passengers on bus and light rail vehicles.

VTA has one of the best transit recoveries in the nation, but ridership is still down from pre-pandemic numbers
While transit agencies across the country have struggled with getting riders back since the pandemic, prompting doomsday scenarios that include service cuts and fare hikes, the Valley Transportation Authority asserts its ridership recovery is among the best in the nation — although it has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.
