[NSAlert] Hurricane Florence - NS Storm Preparations

 

Tropical Storm Florence is currently moving through the Atlantic Ocean and according to the National Hurricane Center, Florence is forecast to be a dangerous major hurricane impacting the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic U.S. coast late this week.

 

NS will be issuing embargoes for affected locations based on the current projections from the National Hurricane Center. Traffic  en route to these locations will be held at yards throughout the Norfolk Southern system. Additionally, Norfolk Southern is staging resources including ballast trains, equipment, and generators, and will be prepared to commence storm recovery efforts once it is safe to do so.  Customers with questions regarding local service should contact their Operations and Service Support, Unit Train, Automotive, or Intermodal representative.

 

Norfolk Southern will continue to closely monitor the storm and we will provide updates as the storm progresses.

 

The latest ETA and routing information is always available through Pacesetter and accessNS.

Hurricane Florence – NS Storm Preparations

 

Norfolk Southern continues to monitor the progress of Hurricane Florence which remains a powerful Category 4 hurricane that is forecasted to make landfall on the southeast U.S. coast later this week. NS has issued embargos for traffic destined to locations impacted by the storm and traffic en route to these locations is being held have yards throughout the Norfolk Southern system.  Based on the storm’s current projected path, Norfolk Southern is currently preparing by repositioning rail equipment away from the low lying areas in and around the impacted regions and staging equipment and manpower for recover efforts to start when it is safe to do so.

 

Norfolk Southern is working with customers to identify service needs and curtailment.  Customers with questions regarding local service should contact their Operations and Service Support, Unit Train, Automotive, or Intermodal representative.

Norfolk Southern Foundation supports Hurricane Florence recovery efforts

 

NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 18, 2018 – The Norfolk Southern Foundation is donating $100,000 to assist in Hurricane Florence recovery efforts in North Carolina.

 

The Foundation, Norfolk Southern’s charitable giving arm, will direct $50,000 to the American Red Cross and $50,000 to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina for relief efforts. 

 

“Many of our Norfolk Southern employees, facilities, and customers are located in these affected areas, and Red Cross and food bank recovery efforts are timely and vital,” said James A. Squires, NS chairman, president and CEO. “We want our employees, customers, and community neighbors to know that Norfolk Southern is there to help where it’s needed most.”

 

As part of the relief effort, the Norfolk Southern Foundation’s Matching Gift program will match employee gifts of $50 or more to the American Red Cross or to any Feeding America food bank.

 

Norfolk Southern employs 1,245 railroaders and operates over 1,187 route miles of track in North Carolina.
