Preparing and actively responding to Winter Storm Diego
Winter Storm Diego moved through the Charlotte region this weekend. Check back for updated city service impacts and winter weather safety and preparedness tips
Service Updates
- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center will open to the public Monday at 10 a.m., with the City Council committee and business meetings continuing as scheduled.
- Total accumulation from Winter Storm Diego varied greatly by location: areas north of Uptown were hit harder than areas south of Uptown.
- With many drivers now at home and off the streets, City of Charlotte road crews will use the next 10 hours to continue clearing and treating roads, focusing on those hardest hit areas in north Charlotte.
- Because of road conditions on secondary roads, Solid Waste Services will not operate Monday. The community can receive service updates by texting CLTSWS to 245-87.
- City of Charlotte tree removal crews, who must work in the daylight to ensure safety, are monitoring downed trees along five major routes:
- Plaza at Harris (use Rocky River Road/Grier Road and Milton Road as alternate routes)
- Carmel at Colony (use Quail Hollow Road, Sharon View Road as alternate routes)
- Randolph / Wendover (use Monroe Road, Providence Road as alternate routes)
- Sharon / Colony (use Fairview Road, Providence Road, Park Road as alternate routes)
- Providence at Colonial (use Queens Road, Kings Drive as alternate routes)
- Neither the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar nor the Blue Line will be in service Sunday. Visit Ride Transit to plan your trip.
- The Charlotte Area Transit System call center and Transit Center ticket booth will close at 1 p.m. Sunday.
- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Animal Care & Control animal shelter is closed to the public on Sunday.
