This morning 17 of us met at North Station and then rode MBTA up to Lowell. After returning as far as Anderson-Woburn, we then took the Downeaster up to Wells, ME and are currently returning to Boston North Station. On the northbound trip we had 18 folks as one more joined us, and then one left us again at Wells so 17 returned. Two very nice scenic round trips, and unexpectedly two very nice stations that were open to keep us warm and allow some to buy snacks. We plan to take a quick Blue Line round trip and then come back for dinner.

Another successful day is over, as we completed the Downeaster run, and then most of us rode the Blue Line to Wonderland and back. Upon arrival downtown, we pretty much went our separate ways as 7 went to dinner at Faneuil Hall, and others went home or prepared for a late night Amtrak points run. Our peak participation was 18 people, between Woburn and Wells on the northbound Downeaster. The Lowell round trip and the return from Wells were 17 people. I think we were all pleasantly surprised by both the Woburn and Wells stations being open on a weekend and keeping us warm. Though the cold was not too bad today, it was nice to wait indoors. Woburn has a branch of a prominent national doughnut chain. Wells has a friendly volunteer caretaker in charge. If we haven't already burned up our MBTA transit passes, we will tomorrow on the subways and trolleys. Definitely getting our money's worth!
