Utica Police Chief: 13-Year-Old Boy Responsible for Freight Train Crash, Could Face Charges
UTICA, N.Y. -- Police are closing the investigation into a runaway freight car in Utica.
Last week, the train car, which was parked near the Susuquehanna Railroad Station, broke loose, causing a minor car accident and colliding with an intique locomotive, damaging Union Station.
Police said a 13-year-old boy was playing on and around the freight car. The boy told police it was an accident.
Police officials said they plan to speak with CSX Railroad and the Susquehanna Railroad about the incident.
"We plan on having an after-action meeting to discuss what's going to go on in the future. In addition to this we've also received notification there will be a federal investigation regarding how this train was set in motion," Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said.
