Metra news release:

Metra meets on-time goal for 16th consecutive month

(July 27, 2016) – Metra in June completed its 16th straight month of meeting or exceeding its on-time performance goal, posting an on-time performance rate of 95.5 percent for the month. The June rate exceeded the five-year average for the month of June of 93.4 percent.

Metra’s goal is to operate at least 95 percent of its trains on time. Like the rest of the U.S. commuter railroad industry, Metra considers a train to have operated on time if it reaches its final destination within five minutes and 59 seconds of its scheduled arrival.

“Our customers expect and deserve timely service, and that’s why we are pleased that we have again exceeded our on-time performance goal for the month,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “We remain committed to providing customers with service that is safe and reliable each and every day.”

In June, 791 of 17,434 trains were tardy by six minutes or more. The most common cause for delays were signal or switch failure. Track construction, human error and mechanical issues were other major causes of Metra train delays in June.
