I just got my refund check from the Canadian government. Due to my longer stay, I had accumulated CAN$59.01 (US $44.67) in Goods & Services Tax paid.

John,
Did you send them your original Amtrak ticket stubs? I believe I read that they wanted some proof that you left (and how you left) the country. I did not want to immediately send my stubs until I knew I had received all my Amtrak Guest Rewards points. Now that I know I have, I will soon submit my hotel receipt for the refund.

Kevin,
Just don't tell them that you arrived by train, and you won't have to give up your ticket stubs. If you come and go by car, then they have no way of knowing.
That's what I plan to do. Especially since I'll be filing for two trips to Canada, one of which I did indeed drive, while the other was by train. However the form doesn't allow for two choices, so I'll just check by Car.
Alan,
Take care and take trains!

I sent them my Amtrak stub from my Canada departure. The stub had my Guest Rewards number on it, so I assumed the process was automatic as usual. No harm; I got credit for the points from Montreal. The other way I got credit to the Canadian Border (as others did).

I believe the ADIRONDACK is an AMTRAK-operated train all the way to Montreal, hence the GR points would be awarded for the entire trip. Interestingly though, VIA does assign a train number to the Canadian portion of the route.

VIA runs their own trains # 68 and 69 Toronto to Montreal so they would not want confusion with the train numbers.
