This is how we stand as of Thursday morning:

We have a total of 16 people on the participant list. Of course we often have last minute scratches, or we get walk-on's who are certainly welcome but were unexpected.

For tomorrow's (Friday's) activities, we have just 6 people. It's probably good the number is so low since we are going to be on the subways at rush hour. For our all-day Saturday subway sojourn, the number doubles to 12. And our busiest day will be Sunday, where I currently show 15 people involved. I guess many of us wish to get the Pascack Valley Line trackage under their belts!

Last night I checked the weather for our fest days, but I began to fall asleep at the wheel here before I could post it. It is always subject to last minute change, but for now here is what they said. On Friday in New York City around 5 PM, it should be 41 degrees, with a wind chill factor of 34. Around 8 PM, those numbers will have dropped by 4 degrees.

For Saturday in NYC, there is the 50% chance of a snow snower. The low will be 23, and the high 37. If we do get any appreciable snow, it should not be a problem as we will be mostly underground, except for our trip out to Howard Beach on the A train.

Sunday in Gladstone, NJ they are expecting a low of 12, and a high of 24. There is a 30% of precipitation, which obviously would be in frozen form. In Spring Valley, NY that same day, they expect a high of 25, also with a 30% chance of snow flurries.

And finally, on a personal note, Michael and I will be there at the fest, but with heavy hearts. We lost 1/3 of our family this week as our cat Fluffy expired late Tuesday night. She made it to 16 years 10 months and had been sick for years, but it's always tough to lose a pet even when that day is expected. We'll think of Fluffy always, especially when we leave for 3 days this weekend and don't have to leave out the appropriate amount of cat food.

I have seen all of the planned subway changes for this coming weekend. We should not be affected by any trackwork, reroutes, etc... unless there are any last minute emergency changes.

Expect the following things on Saturday:
  • 2 train that we take from Penn Station will run local through Manhattan. (Usually runs express to Chambers Street)
  • 4 train that we take from Brooklyn to Grand Central will have Bedford Park Blvd. as a destination rather than Woodlawn, due to some trackwork in the Bronx.
  • 7 train that we take from Grand Central to Times Square may not be on its usual schedule due to the line being trancated in Queens at Woodside/61st Street. 7 was chosen over the S shuttle because it leaves us closer to 8th Avenue to catch the A train.
Also, as you know we will start the Friday activities by meeting for dinner at the Manhattan Mall food court --- somewhere on the left side where the Sbarro is.

Dinner on Saturday I will leave open to discussion, since we have different tastes. The partiicipants who want to have dinner together may prefer anything from fast food to a steak dinner, so we'll play it by ear.

Sunday I don't have dinner together scheduled, but it is certainly an option should anyone choose to eat together. Some who need to travel home may leave the group following our arrival from Spring Valley.

Wish I was a part of this BARF, but are you sure he thermometer goes that low  It seems from my distant past that it feels warmer while it is snowing. Also IIRC the tunnels and trains are warmer. :) Mahalo Eric aka GG-1

Eric, it's not too late to jump on a plane in 82 degree weather and jump off the same plane in 12 degree weather, in order to join us!
