As a train bore down on a car stuck on railroad tracks in Riverside on Tuesday night, a father was able to get only one of his children out in time — but his 3-year-old toddler left in the car when the train hit it survived with only minor injuries, police said.

The vehicle became disabled on the BNSF Railway tracks at Chicago and Marlborough avenues with the father and two children inside, Riverside fire officials wrote in a news release.
