Mayor hopes to restore and display century-old streetcar to showcase city's history

Mayor Drew Dilkens stares up at a hulking, ramshackle old streetcar — its steel rusted, its wood panels rotting and many components missing entirely — and is stirred by its connection to Windsor’s history and its untapped potential.

Mayor seeks council approval for $750K refurbishment of one of Windsor's last streetcars

A hulking, ramshackle 99-year-old Windsor streetcar will be free to acquire but pricey to restore — as much as $750,000 — according to a city report.

Using the trolley as a venue to peddle ice cream or as a display in a city park will not serve the historical character of this transportation relic, IMHO. Outdoor display will invite deterioration from harsh Canadian winters or the ravages of vandals. I say donate the trolley to Halton County Radial Railway where it will receive the preservation and care it needs to deliver the appropriate history lesson.    Sloan

In 7-4 vote, council approves restoring 99-year-old streetcar

No. 351, a hulking and dilapidated 99-year-old streetcar pulled out of a Belle River cottage a decade ago, is going to be restored and showcased as “an authentic piece of Windsor’s history.”
