MBTA emails reveal delay in notifying public about snow problems
SPECIAL REPORT -- (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The MBTA finally turned over hundreds of emails this week for two top employees, nearly three months after FOX Undercover first asked for them through a request under the state's Public Records Law.
Those emails from Monday, February 9 show T management knew for nearly two hours that it would need to shut down the system that night because it was overwhelmed by the snow, but discussions between MBTA officials and Governor Charlie Baker's Administration dragged on, leaving the public in the dark about the seriousness of the situation.
FOX Undercover first asked for the emails to and from MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott and to and from MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo on February 10, and received a bill from the MBTA for $15,000. The T eventually agreed to provide one day of emails for both employees for $1,100 and then later dropped the price to $500, when it realized it could produce the emails electronically.
The emails show the morning began with discussions about what to say about the worsening conditions.
