Trains magazine, 4/24/23:
Miami exploring effort to expand commuter rail service
Miami-Dade County officials are attempting to revive a long-dormant proposal for commuter rail service west and south of downtown using existing CSX Transportation tracks, the Miami Herald reports.
Full story here.
It's good to think about the future, but let's get the TriRail Coastal Link (along the FEC) and get the existing TriRail into MiamiCentral downtown first, as well as Amtrak to that Miami Airport station.
If you look at a map of the Miami Airport Station, it is the true definition of a Terminal, not a station. Everything that comes into it starts or ends there. TriRail, the MetroRail Orange Line, the MiamiMover people mover to the airport proper, and maybe someday in our lifetimes, Amtrak all enter only from one direction. Across the street from the bumping posts is a big Sheraton hotel, and an office for the Expressway Authority. I hope they are aware of this because anything to the south would have to go right through them.
