Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers (MARP), newsletter for May 2012:

The former Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad constructed the SS Badger vessel as a car ferry across Lake Michigan between Ludington, MI and Manitowoc, WI. Although no longer connected to passenger railroads, the car ferry still runs today. However it was discovered that the vessel is dumping coal ash into Lake Michigan. The line may be shut down by the end of this year. Conversion of the ship to natural gas is planned, but this costs a lot and could take some time.

A new station for Ann Arbor will most likely be built near the University of Michigan Medical Center. The city may soon confirm a contract for the station's design.

The Amtrak station in Durand, which sustained water damage last year, has now been repaired.

A new Grand Rapids Amtrak station is well underway. To go along with the new facility's future opening, local leaders are rallying for a second Pere Marquette frequency.
