Breaking News

1 pulled from car after crash involving Sound Transit train

 

A 50-year-old man was trapped in a car after a crash involving a Sound Transit train in South Seattle.

 

Firefighters on scene at 7150 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. pulled the driver from the accident about 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

 

He was sent to the hospital.

Central Link light rail service continues to be interrupted between Columbia City and Rainier Beach Stations.

 

Link is operating at all other Stations.

Update: Rider Alert: Central Link light rail - Temporary service interruption between Rainier Beach and Columbia City Stations

 

Alternate Shuttle bus service is en-route and more information will be provided once operational.

Link is serving all other stations with minor delays.

For service toward downtown Seattle from Rainier Beach, board Route 8 at the posted bus stop northbound  on Martin Luther King, Jr Way S and transfer to Link at Columbia City Station.

For service toward Sea-Tac Airport from Columbia City Station, board Route 8 at the posted bus stop southbound on Martin Luther King, Jr Way S and transfer to Link at Rainier Beach station.

The driver is lucky to be alive, judging from the accompanying photos from KOMO news.  At least in the first line, if not the headline, they call it like it was--car crashed into train.  On various Seattle fora,  there will be the usual moaning about the line having been built at-grade, rather than yada yada yada.  The fact is any other way would have been cost-prohibitive and the line likely never built.  I feel sorry for air passengers who might have missed their flight because of one stupid idiot, if I might be allowed political incorrectness (assuming of course that there was not a medical emergency issue for the driver).
