This thread is for all discussion regarding our time in Norfolk, including riding TIDE light rail, and any other group activities.

Day 4 of the Fest ended with our arrival in Norfolk, albeit almost an hour and a half late. We split up upon arrival going to hotels. Most took cabs. The 3 staying out by Newtown Road took the light rail there and then walked. Day 5 has given us a chance to sleep a bit later as Day 4 was very long. The 9 of us will all be together for the TIDE light rail riding, followed by killing a couple of ours with lunch in the mall, and sitting waiting for the appropriate time to go back to the Norfolk station for the Thruway bus to Newport News.

Wifi works on The TIDE!! Or you wouldn't be hearing from me right now. Let this be a lesson to other transit systems, that it CAN be done. Three who stayed by Newtown Road are now on the way to meet the rest of the group downtown at MacArthur Square. The we ride "officially" back and forth to both ends of the line. I'll be on this vehicle for an hour and a half. Having ridden both LYNX and TIDE in the past few days, the vehicles appear to be very similar, if not exactly alike..... right down to the scrolling message sign above the operator's cab.

The group enjoyed our time on the TIDE light rail. It operated like clockwork, and we followed our itinerary for "official Fest rides" exactly. Once at the MacArthur Square stop, we did part several ways for lunch. Five went to the food court, 2 went to a seafood restaurant, and the other two went to seek lunch that could be washed down in a certain manner. Next on the agenda was getting ourselves to the Amtrak station. After sitting a little longer in cool weather than originally planned, we all made our respective ways to the station. We were pleased to find a temporary trailer in place functioning as a station until the real one is constructed.
