Oklahoma City panel chooses streetcar route

A recommended route for a 4.6-mile downtown streetcar route has been selected by an Oklahoma City advisory panel, with the proposal advancing to a full citizens advisory board and the City Council for review. Approval from both bodies is expected.

Photo shows Amtrak train in station. Odd choice. ;)

Yeah kind of out of place, with the only tie-in being that the streetcar will serve the Amtrak station. It's a good thing, provided the streetcar is running before the Heartland Flyer departs south in the morning and after it arrives from the south in the evening. I guess that was the only "train" photo they had in stock.

Oklahoma City considers MAPS 3 streetcar proposals

A committee will evaluate seven proposals from four companies that want to supply the MAPS 3 streetcars.

Glad to see a fine Pennsylvania company, Brookville Equipment Corp., vying for the business.

Oklahoma City releases additional MAPS 3 streetcar documents

Oklahoma City has released further details on prices manufacturers have proposed for the MAPS 3 streetcars.

Release of some prices had been delayed until Friday because companies had marked the information "proprietary.

Czech company is leading contender to build MAPS 3 streetcars

The company that built streetcars for Seattle and Portland, Ore., is the leading contender to supply Oklahoma City’s MAPS 3 streetcars.

Boo. Hiss.  <_<   Pick Brookville, a Pennsylvania company.  :D

Although Pacifica/Inekon could use the business, I'm not sure. A few here in Seattle may have a grudge against the owner of OLD's basketball team. My uncle roots against what he calls the 'Milwaukee' Pilots whenever they are in playoff contention. By the way, will this line be going by the basketball arena?

OKLAHOMA CITY Council has given its approval to a route for the "MAPS 3" urban revitalization project streetcar line and now it will move to engineering design, the "News OK dot com" site reports. The 4.6-mile car line is estimated at $58.3 million to build but nearly $130 million was authorized by voters for the overall project. A spur off the main line could be built to the new convention center if the site for the old_to_new.jpg"MAPS 3" center is too far from the car line. "The mainline and a maintenance barn are to begin operations with five streetcars by mid-2018. Current estimates have costs for the streetcars, including a second phase extending service, perhaps toward the Oklahoma Health Center, within the $128.8 million budget."

From O Scale Trolley Modelers:

OKLAHOMA CITY under its "Maps 3" urban revitalization program funded by a voter approved sales tax will be building a modern streetcar line downtown with wire-free sections and Overhead Contact System [OCS] trolley wire so there is interest in tram developments worldwide. The Oklahoman newspaper site posted a photo feature about Russia's new futuristic tram although it's unclear if the design has had any buyers. It;s a bit similar to the New York Railways Green Lines "Broadway Battleship" or "hobble skirt cars" in so far as the industrial design appears ungainly with its inward sloping dash just as the Green Lines cars did with their protruding bumper lips:w300-749bff81d210cf0d7c85676651744b39.jp
