AMTRAK SILVER SERVICE IN FLORIDA IMPACTED BY APPROACHING TROPICAL STORM ISAAC

August 25, 2012
3:30 pm ET

Amtrak has suspended a portion of its Silver Service line between Miami and Orlando, Florida, through Sunday, August 26, 2012 in advance of approaching tropical storm (Isaac).

The host railroad in the impacted region, CSX, and Amtrak, have determined that service south of Orlando, will be suspended through at least Sunday, as a pre-caution against potential damaging winds and flooding from heavy rain fall which are expected if Isaac makes landfall.

As a result the following adjustments have been made:

Saturday, August, 25, 2012:

Trains 91 (Silver Star/ New York to Miami) will terminate travel in Orlando with no alternate transportation

Train 97 (Silver Meteor New York to Miami)) will terminate travel in Orlando with no alternate transportation

Sunday, August 26, 2012:

Train 92 (Silver Star Miami to Jacksonville) will originate in Orlando with no alternate transportation between Miami and Orlando

Train 98 (Silver Meteor Miami to Jacksonville) will originate in Orlando with no alternate transportation between Miami and Orlando

In addition, Amtrak’s connecting bus service between Orlando and Fort Myers has been cancelled for Sunday and Monday (8/26-8/27), due to the impending severe weather conditions.

A decision on Monday’s operating plan will be determined sometime tomorrow.

Passengers who have paid but choose not to travel due to this service disruption can receive a refund or a voucher for future travel. Some reservations booked online can be modified or canceled on http://Amtrak.com/ or by using the free Amtrak mobile app.

Amtrak regrets any inconvenience. This information is correct as of the above time and date. Information is subject to change as conditions warrant. Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com/alerts for Service Alerts and Passenger Notices. Schedule information and train status updates are available at the http://Amtrak.com/ home page.

I would be very surprised to see the Crescent restored anytime within the next few days. Weather Channel is showing very bad flooding from Lake Ponchartrain in downtown Slidell, with the live shots taking place next to the railroad track, the NS line that carries the Crescent. The track looks to be washed out in places. They say the water will not recede itself, but will need to be pumped from the city.
