One of the trips we are taking during the Florida RailFest 2008 event is an intrastate trip from Tampa to Miami. This trip is scheduled for roughly 5-1/4 hours, all in daylight, during which only one meal would be served in the dining car: Lunch. It does not therefore seem worth it to book a sleeper for this short segment. So it appears that our group will be booking seats in Coach Class for this trip. If anyone would rather go in a sleeping compartment, let me know. Also, for those going all the way into Miami, which right now to my knowledge is all of us, keep in mind that the walk from the "Miami" Amtrak station (which is actually in Hialeah) to the TriRail/MetroRail Transfer station is about half a mile or so. Since we will be there in the summertime, a 6:05 PM arrival will still put us there in daylight, and if we're 1 or 2 hours late we're still OK. But if we're running into darkness, we might consider sharing taxicabs to the Transfer Station. Also those whose hotels are closer to TriRail can also consider changing from Amtrak to TriRail at a shared station such as Ft. Lauderdale or Hollywood.

Just a reminder, especially to those who plan to fly into Tampa and fly home from Miami... Make sure you make your Amtrak reservation in coach class for the intrastate trip from Tampa to the Miami area. Though a large number of passengers get off the train in Orlando, Amtrak does do a good business between Tampa and Miami. We have a growing number of people who are going to opt for detraining in Hollywood and then take TriRail to their hotel destinations both north and south of there.
