Hanford (CA) Sentinel, 1/28:

Authorities crack down on railroad safety

A Hanford jogger sped across railroad tracks Wednesday morning, beating the train but not the citation Hanford police gave him for ignoring the crossing signals.

He was cited as part of an operation that included Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Police, the Hanford Police Department and Operation Lifesaver. Called an “Officer on the Train”, the event is a zero-tolerance enforcement operation aimed at educating the public about railroad safety.

"[Operation Lifesaver] sponsors the event and we work with them as well as local police authorities in the local area to help get that message out," BNSF Spokesperson Lena Kent said.
