Flooding Impacting Main Line Traffic in Iowa

Posted Date: September 23, 2016

To Our Customers,

Flooding related to heavy rains in north-central Iowa have caused outages along Union Pacific's main line near Mason City. Currently, multiple miles of track are underwater. We expect the outage to last through most of the weekend, and we'll be assessing damage as flood waters recede.

Today and through the first part of the weekend, flooding is expected to move southeast toward Cedar Rapids, where the banks of the Cedar River are expected to flood. Union Pacific has two yards in the Cedar Rapids area that are in the path of the anticipated flooding. We are working with customers in the area to reposition equipment.

Traffic impacted by current and potential outages is being rerouted. Inbound traffic into and near Cedar Rapids is being suspended. Customers with freight in the area should expect 48- to 72-hour delays.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.

Flooding Impact Growing in Iowa

Posted Date: September 24, 2016

To Our Customers,

Flood waters have begun receding in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota, which will allow Union Pacific to begin the work necessary to repair damage found between Mason City and Minneapolis-St. Paul. We expect complete repairs in that area to take a couple days. Re-routes are being utilized, but customers with freight traversing that area should continue to anticipate 48- to 72-hour delays.

Near Cedar Rapids, where a disaster emergency has been declared, the Cedar River is not expected to crest until Tuesday. Traffic into that area has been suspended. Union Pacific continues to work with customers to reposition equipment in area yards. We also have staged employees and equipment to allow us to address any needed repairs as soon as is safely possible. Delays in this area also are expected to be 48 to 72 hours.

We will continue to provide updates as conditions warrant.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific sales representative with any questions.

Update on Iowa-Minnesota Flooding

Posted Date: September 26, 2016

To Our Customers,

Union Pacific's line between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Mason City, Iowa, remains partially under water. Water is slowly receding from the area, and we anticipate the line could be out of service for another couple of days. While re-routes are being utilized, customers with traffic in the area should continue to anticipate delays of 24 to 48 hours.

In the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, area, the Cedar River is expected to crest Tuesday morning. Traffic in the area is restricted and may experience moderate delays. If it becomes necessary to re-route or stage traffic, customers could see 24- to 36-hour delays.

We will continue to provide updates as conditions warrant.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
