Board Backs Chief Executive, Cites Potential Dangers During the Storm
Metro officials congratulated themselves yesterday on their decision to shut down bus and rail service hours before Hurricane Isabel swept the region, saying it was better to be safe than sorry.
"None of us is in possession of a crystal ball, but based on the best information that we had, we made the best decision we could," Metro board Chairman Jim Graham told transit executives. "I can't help but think what this meeting would be like had the weather which was predicted come and we kept the system open. How many potential people blown onto the tracks? How many upturned buses?"
