Signal Upgrades Near Hanging Rock, OH

Mar 27, 2015

To ensure Norfolk Southern maintains high standards of safety and service across our network, we will be upgrading our signal systems near Hanging Rock, OH on Monday, April 13th as part of the overall positive train control (PTC) initiative.

As a result of this work, Intermodal traffic moving between Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) and Chicago Landers will be impacted during this 10-hour track outage.  Train 233-12 is expected to incur a 1 to 2-hour delayed availability.

About Positive Train Control
PTC describes technology mandated by the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (RSIA) that is designed to automatically stop or slow a train before certain accidents occur. In particular, PTC is designed to prevent train-to-train collisions, derailments caused by excessive speed, unauthorized incursions by trains onto sections of track where repairs are being made, and movement of a train through a track switch left in the wrong position.
